Research Associate Chen-Yu Lin Receives Young Scholar Award 2018
Department of Music research associate and adjunct lecturer Chen-Yu Lin has been awarded the Young Scholar Award at the EATS Conference 2018. Her paper “A Tale of Two Versions: Censorship Attitudes of UK-based Chinese Students Towards Taiwanese Popular Music” focusses on music censorship and audiences’ perceptions of it.

Spinning the Child: How records made for children construct childhood
In the sleeve notes to one of his two albums for children, Woody Guthrie wrote “Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple.” As I discovered from my now-completed PhD on the topic of records made for children, Woody’s songs were often far from simple, yet his words have proved helpful whilst I was finishing up my thesis.

"Chasing the China Wind: A Musical Journey," by Chen-Yu Lin
The first event funded by the Postgraduate Research Development Fund is a premiere screening by Chen-Yu Lin, postgraduate researcher in the Department of Music, of her short documentary ‘Chasing the China Wind: A Musical Journey’; exploring recent Chinese popular music from the perspectives of post-1990’s generations across Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Liverpool. This exciting event is now taking place at on 9 June, 20.00 in Frederiks. Entry is free and there is no need to book, just come along!

'I have been in Liverpool now for little over a week, and the welcome I received here has been truly wonderful. In The Netherlands, you’re encouraged as a young researcher to spend a few weeks to a few months at a foreign university to expand your intellectual horizons and get feedback on your work by experts in the field. The publications of IPM researchers have been very helpful in my research on music tourism, and that is why I really wanted to spend some time here and discuss the main issues and questions related to music tourism.
