About

Ben has worked at Leahurst Equine Practice since 2016. His clinical work is undertaken in the equine first opinion practice, providing a high quality veterinary service to equine owners of the Wirral and Chester. Ben is responsible for the diagnostic workup and management of patients, and has a proven competence in managing cases at both ambulatory and referral level due to his vast experience as a general practice vet, and time spent as a hospital intern when he was working in Kent.

Ben oversees the training and assessment of final year veterinary students while on the equine practice and clinical skills rotation. Student feedback on the practice rotation is always positive, especially in regards to my teaching. Ben is also the teaching lead for Equine Management of Disease, which is delivered to the 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. This course content is integral to preparing vets students with the knowledge they require to succeed in their final year.

Ben's interests in dermatology and neoplasia have led him to undertake research into the histopathological markers for the recurrence of sarcoids. Ben has also published educational articles in InPractice and UKVet Equine. These have related to the management of itchy horses and midge hypersensitivity in practice. Ben is also responsible for co-ordinating the Equine Dermatology units to qualified veterinary surgeons in practice, who are enrolled on the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice.

Away from horses, Ben is an active member of the institutes Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, and is spearheading the department marketing strategy.
