Abbie Harrison
Background
I completed my undergraduate degree in Human Physiology at UoL. My dissertation project was spent working in the institute of translational medicine (ITM), investigating the role of differential DUB expression in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Following Physiology, I completed a Masters of Biological Sciences firstly, working in Bangkok on a short-term research project that aimed to analyse mass spectrometry information from patient pulmonary adenocarcinoma biopsies, in order to investigate proteomic signatures for early stage lung cancer subtypes. Secondly, as a Research Associate for a collaborative project between A*s Institute of Cellular and Molecular Biology in Singapore and Judy Coulson’s laboratory in ITM, investigating the role of DUBs and the HIPPO pathway in invasive carcinomas. After completing my masters, I worked as a Scientific Associate for a pharmaceutical company called Allergan. My role at Allergan involved performing the development, optimisation and application of analytical methods required to support the Cell and Molecular Team.
Project
I am currently studying for my PhD at the Institute of Infection and Global Health, University of Liverpool, Supervised by professor Julian Hiscox and Professor Aras Kadioglu. My project aims to investigate intracellular aberrations of protein levels and interactions within the lungs in response to irritant exposure. I will be using a multitude of methods to address my aims including but not limited to; proteomic analyses, bioinformatic techniques and ALI modelling.
