The Institute of Infection, Veterinary, and Ecological Sciences has been awarded an Athena Swan Silver award by Advance HE.

The Silver award acknowledges the Institute’s continued efforts to embed Equality, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) across its culture. This achievement follows extensive data collection, analysis, and the development of a comprehensive 5-year action plan focused on four key areas:

  • Advancing career progression for women into senior academic and leadership roles.
  • Enhancing outreach, widening participation, and improving recruitment practices to attract diverse talent.
  • Improving wellbeing and addressing bullying and harassment within the workplace.
  • Strengthening data collection and engagement to monitor and drive future improvements.

The Institute’s Athena Swan co-leads Professor Carri Westgarth and Dr Stephen Cornell, along with EDIW lead Professor Rob Pettitt, said: "We would like to thank the whole team for their efforts over the past two years. Whilst much progress has been made, there is still much to do over the next five years as we work towards a future Gold Award application."
