Technical staff from the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology hosted a visit and tour opportunity for technical colleagues from partner universities as part of the North West Technician Network, at the Veterinary Teaching Suite (VTS) in Liverpool.

This visit was funded by the Technician Commitment Collaboration Fund which is open to all technical staff working at member organisations and presents an opportunity to visit another organisation for a single day.

Department of Veterinary Anatomy Physiology and Pathology technical staff Elena Fitzpatrick and Charlie Milford met with Megan Stevens (Laboratory technician, UCLAN, School of Veterinary Medicine) and Michal Zatrak (Senior Technical Office, University of Chester, Biological Sciences) to develop the technicians’ professional network and understand how another university organises its technical resources.

The visit included a tour of the Veterinary Teaching Suite (VTS), clinical skills teaching rooms and mock consult rooms, with discussions on the facility’s role, equipment portfolio and teaching activities, highlighting how we provide technical services, support teaching activities and manage teaching materials.

Elena and Charlie both spoke with pride about their technical roles at the main campus Veterinary School facilities. They promoted the University of Liverpool’s support for technical staff qualification, recruitment, career progression, and interest in the new RTP career pathway as part of the Technicians Commitment initiative. The visit received excellent feedback and further interest in visiting the Leahurst campus facilities.

Charlie said, "It was a pleasure to host Megan and Michal on the Liverpool Campus. We are looking forward to possible collaborations with them both in the future."
