Professor Cheng-Hock Toh has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Society for Haematology (BSH) in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of haematology.

As Professor of Haematology at the University and Consultant Haematologist at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Professor Toh has a distinguished career as a clinician, researcher, health technology innovator, educator and professional leader.

His specialist haematology area is thrombosis and bleeding disorders, and his work understanding blood changes during infection and critical illness has led to patented discoveries, product development and international guidelines to improve standards in patient care. He was appointed an honorary CBE in 2022 in recognition of this important work.

Professor Toh has been part of the society’s history, serving as BSH President between 2018-2020, where he encouraged a wider range of haematologists to join the membership and continues to encourage volunteering even to this day.

Commenting on his award, Professor Toh said: “I am grateful to BSH and accept this award on behalf of the many unsung haematologists whose careers make a positive lifelong difference to their patients and colleagues.”

Professor Toh received the honour alongside fellow Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Professor Michael Makris. The awards were presented by BSH President, Dr Josh Wright, at the recent 64th Annual Scientific Meeting held at the ACC in Liverpool.
