This module will consider the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of socio-legal research, including the classical sociological thinkers and theories that influenced the development of socio-legal research such as Marxism, Foucault Bourdieu and Feminist Theory. The aim of the course is to enable students to describe and evaluate a range of different approaches to the study of law within social theory. Students will think critically about the implications of each theory for law as well as enabling them to select the most appropriate theoretical and methodological approaches for their own future research.
