About

Personal Statement

I gained a BA (Hons) degree in Community and Race Relations at Edge Hill College and completed an MA and PhD in Archaeology at the University of Liverpool. I was a Visiting Research Scholar at the W.E.B.DuBois Institute of African and African American Research, Harvard University. I have over 15 years of practical museum experience, holding the role of Head of the International Slavery Museum, part of National Museums Liverpool (NML) from 2006 to 2021. Following that, I was seconded as a Visiting Professor of Slavery and Public Engagement from 2021 to 2023 in the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures before joining full-time role as a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Museum Practice. Currently, I am the Co-Director of the Centre for the Study of International Slavery, a research partnership between the University and NML.
