On Sunday 14 June, the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, members of staff from the Department of History spoke at a free public event at Gateacre Chapel, organised by the Liverpool University Centre for Archive Studies in association with association with Parliament2015 and LiberTeas.
Talks from Dr Margaret Procter and Dr Alex Buchanan discussed the meaning of Magna Carta today and the role of Liverpudlians in fighting for rights and liberties.
Both speakers had been interviewed on different local radio stations that morning to discuss the wider issues raised by the commemoration.
The event was opened by Maria Eagle, MP for Garston and Halewood and attracted a substantial audience.
