For the past month the display cases outside the University’s Special Collections and Archives reading room in the Sydney Jones Library have been filled with an exhibition curated by first year History students as part of our HIST106 ‘Exploring History’ module.
Two groups of students chose the theme of St George’s Hall for their research project and chose to research questions relating to its role as a representation of Liverpool and its people, using the collections held at the University. This is an excellent example of how Liverpool History students are encouraged to identify and use primary sources, both textual and visual, drawing on the wealth of resources within the University and the city. Students are also able to consider how historical research can be disseminated through visual and spatial means as well as via different textual media and to gain practical curatorial skills.
