The network brings together more than 30 scholars from the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures (HLC) and from across the University of Liverpool. We research the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and diasporas from the region. Research covers all periods, from ancient times to current political affairs. The subjects we cover include but are not limited to archaeology, classics, history, languages, cultures and film, and politics.
The HLC MENA network is the primary forum for researchers of all disciplines to exchange knowledge and ideas on MENA. We build partnerships in Liverpool, in MENA, and globally. One particular focus is research support and career development for early career and PhD researchers.
We hold a series of events and workshops on issues including partnerships, art and politics, and PhD students’ professional development.
