100 Days of a New Government – Reflections on Progress

A collection of contributions from leading thinkers on some of the major policy decisions that will shape lives in Liverpool City Region and across the UK for the rest of the 2020s.

In March 2024, the Heseltine Institute published A Manifesto for Liverpool City Region, which brought together academics and researchers from across the University of Liverpool to highlight critical policy challenges that we anticipated would be central to the General Election. Now, almost 4 months on from the election of the first Labour government in 14 years, we take stock of what the new administration has done so far, and what the future holds for policy over the coming months and years.

This publication features contributions from leading thinkers on some of the major policy decisions that will shape lives in Liverpool City Region and across the UK for the rest of the 2020s. From building new homes to supporting universities, from regulating Artificial Intelligence to promoting sustainable mobility – all within a difficult fiscal environment - how the new government addresses these challenges could impact social and economic outcomes for decades.

Reflections on Progress is the product of extensive experience and policy engagement by University of Liverpool academics, and serious thinking about how the major challenges of the future could be addressed.
