In our latest policy briefing, James Evans of the University of Oxford highlights findings from his research on the history of deindustrialisation in 20th century Britain. Using a case study from Merseyside and neighbouring areas, the research identifies how experiences of deindustrialisation differed significantly between places, even within city-regions. As well as providing interesting insights into the economic history of Merseyside in the late 20th century, this briefing also reveals useful lessons for policy today as we assess the potential impact of technological change.
