Policy Brief 2(19): Equality and public sector investment
The briefing reflects on the work of the EHRC in Scotland, where it has worked with the Scottish government and local government to increase opportunities amongst groups who may have had difficulties accessing the labour market. This approach is now being trialled across a number of areas in England, including Liverpool City Region. With employers facing a recruitment crisis in many sectors, it is increasingly important to adopt a proactive approach to engaging potential employees from a range of diverse backgrounds. The public sector has a particular responsibility to consider how equality can be advanced, and how gaps in employment outcomes between the most and least deprived groups can be reduced. This briefing highlights some of the ways this approach can be implemented across the public sector.
