Funders' strategies and recruitment
Each funder will have specific priorities and they will view their investment in a particular research project/team as a vehicle to support the achievement of their own EDI goals. It is critical that researchers familiarise themselves with their funder's EDI strategy and action plan and then specifically prepare their EDI approach accordingly.
For example, the BBSRC recently published a report with the findings of independent analyses about inequality in early career research in life sciences. The findings and recommendations in this report inform the EDI expectations concerning successful BBSRC (and other UKRI) DTP programmes. Even if you are not applying for a DTP centre but are looking to recruit PhD students or ECRs as part of a BBSRC proposal you should consider:
- Familiarisation with the specific issues identified in this report
- Reflection of how you could be addressing these issues in your project.
