The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences hosted a successful Bake Off event last week, raising £500 for the Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity.

The competition and cake sale featured a variety of delicious bakes made by staff and students and was judged by former Great British Bake Off contestant Lizzie Acker and Dr Jenny Young from the School of Medicine.

Congratulations to Amal Abdulkadir, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Wellbeing Officer for the Faculty, who was crowned the overall winner. Amal’s spiced ring cake, praised by the judges for its exceptional flavour and texture, nudged it just ahead of the rest of the pack.

The Bake Off was part of the Faculty's TeamFHLS 2024 charity fundraising campaign to support the Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity's Bereavement Suite Appeal. This initiative aims to transform clinical rooms into comforting spaces for families experiencing loss, providing a more supportive environment during difficult times and the Faculty is aiming to raise £10,000 this year through a number of different fundraising activities.

Next month, a team from the Faculty will be taking part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to conquer the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park in just 12 hours. To find out more and donate, please visit our TeamFHLS JustGiving page.
