Professor Paul May has been appointed as the first Chair of the North West Neurosurgery Specialised Services Clinical Network.
Funded by NHS England, the Network will bring together commissioners, healthcare providers and patients from across the North West to improve the quality and equity of care and outcomes for the local population.
Professor May is the Director of Clinical Academic Development in the University of Liverpool’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. He spent 40 years at the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Neurosurgeon and founded the paediatric neurosurgical service at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. A renowned leader in the field, Professor May is the former President of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons and National and Clinical Lead for Adolescent and Paediatric Neurosurgery for the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme.
Professor May said: "I am delighted to be appointed as the first Chair of the North West Neurosurgery Specialised Services Clinical Network. The Network provides an incredible opportunity to work collaboratively to advance our services, with a focus on access, outcomes and experience.
"I look forward to developing the Network, in particular, working closely with colleagues across the North West, from Cumbria to Cheshire."
