Teaching and training

A range of teaching and training has been provided as part of the partnership so far. Starting with vital support at the beginning to enable students to continue their studies in Ukraine and providing access to development courses for Sumy State academics.

Vital support

A real difference was made right at the start of the partnership to students and researchers through:

  • Liverpool providing an extensive database of online learning materials from across all three faculties for Sumy State University staff and students to access through a purpose-built platform
  • Welcoming Ukrainian students to summer school in Liverpool, both on-campus and virtually
  • Providing access to space and accommodation for Sumy State University academics able to travel to Liverpool, access to Liverpool staff development courses, and joint working between academics on journals and conferences
  • Liverpool’s Human Anatomy Resource Centre (HARC) has worked with Primal Pictures to provide all Sumy State University medical-based students access to anatomy.tv, the market-leading, 3D digital human anatomy platform.

Summer School

We’ve welcomed Ukrainian students to our International Summer School, both on-campus and virtually. Students and staff from Sumy State University graduated from the programme, studying two modules – ‘Sustainable Development Goals – Global Challenges, Local Action, Achieved Outcomes’ and ‘Fake News, Fake Science and Critical Thinking. What should I believe?”.

We have also hosted from students from Sumy State in Liverpool for Semester 2 in 2023 and 2024.

Co-supervision for PhD students

We are currently developing a co-supervision programme for PhD students from Sumy State.

In June 2024 the University received a donation to support Ukrainian academics and students affected by the war. This funding will support a new cohort of up to 30 Ukrainian PhD students through a co-supervision programme between the University and Sumy State University in Ukraine. In addition, the grant will provide bursaries for up to 50 visiting research students and academics to bring new knowledge and research skills to Ukraine and establish further research collaboration with academics from the University of Liverpool.

Making an Impact events

Sumy State researchers have been able to take part in a range of events as part of Making an Impact 2024. Including sessions on negotiation with project partners and working collaboratively to create impactful research. You can view all of the sessions that were available to Sumy State here
