The University of Georgia is ranked in the top 20 of public universities in the USA, and is leading research initiatives in global health, medicine, education and agriculture, prioritising research that has an impact on the world, making it an important partner for the University.
Following early successful projects in biological sciences, the partnership has now blossomed to include broader research areas as well as prioritising student and staff mobility.
We collaborate with Georgia on a wide range of areas to tackle global challenges, including infectious diseases in humans and animals as well as the impact of ecological change. Our collective work on bio-informatics includes the development of pathogen databases which are used by researchers worldwide. Our long-standing collaboration on cancer research focuses on kinases and cell signaling. We also collaborate on addressing the challenge of human trafficking and support for those who experience it, as well as funding solutions to regenerating cities.
Mobility programmes
The partnership also includes well-established mobility programmes for both undergraduate and PhD students.
The 2 universities cooperate on a Virtual Fellowship programme, offering PhD students at Liverpool the opportunity to apply for a hybrid fellowship placement at the University of Georgia.
Research funding
There are also travel and seed funds to catalyse research collaborations in priority areas including:
- Infection
- One health
- Bio-informatics
- Cancer research
- Digital humanities
- Research to combat human trafficking.
There are now over 18 research collaborations between the 2 institutions which have led to the generation of $25 million (over £19 million) of research funds for the partnership.
