More about our modules
As part of the application process, you will see the complete range of modules open to study abroad students. The University uses the word 'module' to describe a class or unit.
The majority of modules at Liverpool involve a lecture (large group), followed by a seminar (smaller group study), or in some subjects laboratory work.
Exams usually take the form of one essay midway through the semester and a final written exam during the examination period. Some subject areas, especially sciences, may also have multiple choice exams throughout the semester. The type of assessments used in each module is noted on the syllabus section of the module description webpages linked to in the complete list of modules for 2024/25.
You will study alongside both international and UK students in a diverse and friendly peer group.
Tips for choosing modules
- We strongly encourage students to choose modules from a maximum of two departments and where possible, within the same school, as this will minimise timetable clashes
- To avoid further timetable clashes, we suggest picking all modules from the same level
- Students are limited to two classes per semester from the Management School, unless you're majoring in a business or management course at your home university
- You must have a minimum of 45 credits* approved to be issued an offer letter, but we strongly recommend you list 90 credits in your application to improve your chances.
*Students should note that ECTS credits are considered equivalent to half the value of Liverpool credits, e.g. 7.5 ECTS credits would be equal to 15 Liverpool credits.
