How do I apply?

Find out how to apply for a semester or year abroad at the University of Liverpool.

International students interested in studying at the University of Liverpool are welcome to join us for a semester of a full year, whether you're sponsored, an exchange student or applying independently.

The application process is simple and our Global Opportunities team will guide you through it, from your first contact with us through to pre-arrival briefings and your all-important first days on campus.

There are key dates by which point you must submit your application, or be nominated by your home university if you're coming to Liverpool as part of an exchange programme.

All students must apply directly through the Global Opportunities team.

Application deadlines

The deadlines for submitting your application are:

  • Full year or semester one - 1 May (although we recommend you submit your application as soon as possible)
  • Semester two only - 15 November.

We'll be in touch with you throughout the application process, with a final pre-departure briefing in the weeks before your arrival.

Important documents you'll need

Before you start your application, make sure you have the following:

  • Your passport details
  • Your proof of English language ability (if you're a non-native English speaker)
  • Your academic transcript.

Find further information on our entry requirements page.

Exchange students

Exchange students must be nominated by their home university before applying to study abroad at the University of Liverpool. Once you’ve been nominated, you'll receive an email from us with a link to your application portal.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the Global Opportunities team by emailing GoUoL@liverpool.ac.uk.

Visiting (fee-paying) students

If you would like to study at the University of Liverpool on a visiting study abroad programme, or you're looking to sponsor a student for their visit, please email us at GoUoL@liverpool.ac.uk. We'll then give you access to the application portal, where you'll complete your application and select your modules.
