Supporting Your Journey
Studying abroad is a life changing experience. But for all the excitement of application, acceptance, planning and departure, travelling great distances and embracing new ways of life and a new academic culture, it can be a daunting prospect.
At the heart of a city famous for its welcome we have made sure that you have access to all the help you need to make sure that you are prepared and supported for arrival. And with a dedicated team ensuring that all queries are answered, as well as access to current University of Liverpool students who have taken the same journey, you are in safe hands.
Buddy Scheme
The Study Abroad Buddy Scheme is a free service where Liverpool students who have returned from studying overseas volunteer to reach out to welcome those who are joining us for a semester or a year. They will introduce themselves in the months before your arrival and be on hand to answer any questions that you might have (and are best answered by a fellow student and one with experience of studying away from home). Then on arrival, they will be on hand to help out with your first few weeks. This is a great way to immediately build a network, make friends, and ask the questions you might not have thought of at the point of application -or not wanted to ask!
To request a Buddy, just select the option from inside your Mobility Online portal, or email us at GoUoL@liverpool.ac.uk
Pre-arrival Webinars and Welcome Events
Before arrival the Global Opportunities team will be in touch to invite you to online sessions to cover the most common questions and prepare you for arrival. Then, once you make it to Liverpool you will be included in an exciting schedule of events to fully welcome you to the city and make sure you know who to talk to if you need help. Welcome week takes place at both the beginning of semester 1 and 2, and includes orientation, a formal welcome event, campus and city tours, scavenger hunt and more!
Ongoing Support
Following welcome week you will be much more comfortable in your new environment, but we know that it’s always good to check in every so often.
As a full member of the university community you will have access to welfare facilities and services ranging from mental health to financial and visa advice. You can also access our careers service, and a help-desk dedicated to students who are visiting as part of a study abroad experience, staffed by current students and members of the Global Opportunities team. And as a full member of the university you are encouraged to engage with the Guild of Students, join societies and take advantage of events and activities throughout the year that are organised to help you get the best out of your Liverpool experience.
Alumni Benefits
Your connection to Liverpool doesn’t end when you return home. You’ll have made memories- and friends - for life, gained academic credit and been immersed in a new and exciting culture- and you leave as an alumnus of the university. This means you can access discounted tuition fees should you choose to return, continue to engage with our careers service, keep access to digital resources and connect with a community of 120,000+ alumni globally. And we hope that you will continue to be an ambassador for Liverpool when you are back home- and of course, stay in touch!
