The organisation behind one of Britain’s top selling women’s magazine, Candis, has created a £10,000 fund to match donations made by University of Liverpool alumni and supporters of the £25 million child health research and education facility at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
The three storey centre is being built alongside Alder Hey’s new hospital ‘Alder Hey in the Park’ and will be home to around 100 education, research and clinical staff.
The new facility will place Liverpool as a national and international leader in the development of safer and more effective medicines for children and young people.
Personalising healthcare
The University has already received donations from Liverpool graduates of more than £12,000, bringing the total fund raising campaign to more than £22,000.
Bob Hyatt, Chairman of Candis Club, said, “We are pleased that Candis Club, which has a proud history of supporting health projects, was able to match donations from University of Liverpool alumni to support this essential work.”
Children and young people are among the most frequent users of healthcare provision in the UK. Many of the medicines used to treat both common and life-threatening conditions in children and babies, however, have not been developed specifically for this age group.
Safer medicines
The new facility will place Liverpool as a national and international leader in the development of safer and more effective medicines for children and young people.
Funding for the new facility has also been generously provided by the University; Alder Hey Children’s Hospital; the Wolfson Foundation; the European Regional Development Fund; Matalan; Liverpool City Council and Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
