For many students, financial challenges can be a significant barrier to higher education. The Student Fund, supported by the generous donations of alumni and friends, helps to break down those barriers. Through scholarships, bursaries and hardship funding, it provides crucial support to students facing hardship - ensuring that talent and ambition, not financial circumstances, shape their future at the University of Liverpool.

Last year, firsty ear Dentistry student Elouise, shared how a scholarship and bursary made it possible for her to attend university.  Now, six months on, she’s shared an update on her journey and how your support has brought her one step closer to achieving her dream of a career in Dentistry.

“I have always dreamt of a career in Dentistry, but a series of personal challenges made that almost impossible for me. When I was 16, I had to leave my family home and was placed in supported living for vulnerable adults. I was even declared homeless. I didn’t think I’d ever achieve my dream of studying to become a dentist.

But here I am, four years on – and it’s amazing. Because of you, I received a scholarship and bursary so I could afford to study Dentistry. I have since completed my foundation year, and I am now in my first year. None of this would have been possible without your support.

As I look ahead to the rest of the year, I want to stay on track and on top of my studies. The bursary and scholarship allow me to do that.

I feel more confident and relaxed, and I’ve just completed my first set of exams! It’s a relief to be in a situation where revision is my only stress – rather than constantly worrying about money. I feel like my life is on track. I owe so much of my progress to your kindness and support.

Thank you again for your generosity. Your support has made a lasting impact on my life, and I am grateful for everything you’ve helped me achieve.”

There are so many more students, just like Elouise, with the talent and determination to succeed, but without financial support, their ambitions may remain out of reach. Your gift today could be the helping hand that makes all the difference. To find out how you can help open the door to university for another student, visit the Student Fund.
