In memory of Dr Peter Richards

Dr Peter Richards

In memory giving has been a transformative force in changing students’ lives. The kindness of alumni and friends has helped to ensure that all students, no matter their background, are able to make the most of their time at university.

Recently Dr Peter Richards, a valued alumnus, passed away. His daughter made a generous donation in his memory to support the Student Fund, which supports our students in numerous ways. The Student Fund provides hardship grants to  help alleviate financial pressure and supports societies and clubs, such as an art class for veterinary students and equipment for sports societies.

Dr Richards graduated with a Master’s in Education in 1983, and his passion for education remained a constant. His daughter Alison shared her father’s journey with us and why he so generously chose to give back to the university:

“Dad was passinate about education and particularly Further Education. He started as a Primary School teacher and finished his career as Acting Principal of Wallasey College of Further Education. At Dad’s funeral many people told us how Dad had helped them and encouraged them when they didn’t think they were the sort of people who would go further in their studies. As you can imagine I’m incredibly proud of my Dad. As far as I am aware he was the first in his family to go to university obtaining his BA at Leicester in the late 1940s. He went on to gain an MA, MPhil, a Lambeth Degree and finally a Doctorate as well as his MEd from Liverpool. He spent his life helping others and after his death he wanted to continue this by leaving money to support less well off students at Liverpool – a wish I was happy to fulfil.”

On behalf of all who benefit from the kindness and passion of individuals like Dr Richards, thank you. These gifts are shaping lives and will continue to ensure Liverpool remains a place where each student can reach their true potential.
