In 2021, former Liverpool Football Club striker Divock Origi launched his scholarship in partnership with the University of Liverpool, as part of his commitment to support the next generation and help create educational opportunities for students in Liverpool.

This year’s round of applications for 2023/24 has now opened, giving students from the region the chance to fulfil their ambitions of studying towards a degree.

Despite his move to AC Milan in 2022, Anfield and the wider Liverpool city region still mean a great deal to the Belgian international whose scholarships have left an incredible legacy for young people in the city.

The first two Divock Origi scholars, Bushra Ihmaidat and Grace Murphy, who are both from Liverpool and study Law, will complete their first year of study in June this year.

Bushra said: “My studies so far in Law have been going exceptionally well. This scholarship has helped me massively, allowing me to have access to the same opportunities as other students and to be able to excel in my studies so far. I am very grateful for Divock, and the opportunity he has provided me.”

Grace added: “Starting university has been very exciting and I’m so grateful for the opportunity of the scholarship – it has been a huge help.

Divock Origi who, during his eight-year tenure at LFC established the scholarships to empower young people through education, has recorded a special message (below) for prospective applicants. He added:

“This scholarship is something that is special to my heart to be able to collaborate with the University of Liverpool and give people a chance to pursue their dreams.”

The scholarship will be open to one student in the 2023/24 academic year and will cover tuition fees (£9,250 per year) as well as an annual payment of £3,000 towards living costs.

Applicants must be ordinarily resident in the UK and be commencing undergraduate study for the first time, in the academic year 2023/24.

Further information on the scholarships and how to apply is available from the University’s scholarship information pages here.
