Miyoshi's story: “Thank you for showing me the true meaning of community”
Miyoshi Tamashiro (BA Hons Marketing 2021) was one of the hundreds of students who faced unexpected financial hardship during the pandemic. Thanks to the support of alumni and friends Miyoshi received a hardship grant which allowed her to continue her studies and graduate this summer.

Alumni and Friends Fund Grant: How your support is making a difference
The Alumni and Friends Fund provides essential support to countless students, ensuring they receive the best possible Liverpool experience. This academic year, the grant was awarded to nine projects which met a variety of different needs. University launches new brain cancer fundraising campaign
The University of Liverpool launched its new Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer) Fund which has been set up to support ground-breaking research into immunotherapy, a pioneering new treatment for glioblastoma.
Volunteer Spotlight: Adé Molajo
Adé began volunteering in 2018, when he did a webinar on blockchain and its application for the University of Liverpool Management School and returned to the campus recently to support students in the Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Society by giving a presentation on blockchain, NFTs and decentralised finance.
Enda Neill’s Liverpool legacy gift to support leukaemia research
In January this year, the University of Liverpool’s School of Medicine was heartened and honoured to receive a legacy gifted by the late Enda Mary Neill in loving memory of her younger brother Tony Neill, who was a lecturer in Psychology at the University of Liverpool. The gift was to be used to support leukaemia research and intended for the Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Hazel Scott, to use at her ‘absolute discretion and direction’.
Divock Origi scholars begin their journey with the University
Two undergraduate students in receipt of the first scholarships at the University of Liverpool supported by striker Divock Origi have begun their studies. The first Divock Origi scholars, Bushra Ihmaidat and Grace Murphy, both from Liverpool, recently started their degrees in Law at the University. The scholarship aims to empower students as part of Origi’s dedication to supporting the next generation.
The architecture of the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre – designed by Liverpool alumni
Liverpool School of Architecture graduates based at UK architecture practice Ellis Williams completed the University of Liverpool’s unique teaching and performance building, the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre. The Centre was officially opened on the 25 March 2022, if you'd like to view the photographs from the day you can do so here and here.
Name a Seat Stories
As we come to the end of our Name a Seat campaign, we are thrilled that these special stories behind the seats within The Tung Auditorium will have a lasting legacy on all who enjoy this new landmark space. With the Centre now open and music starting to fill the space, we are delighted to share with you the latest instalment of our Name a Seat Stories series.
Mobile Unit to help tackle health inequality launched
University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Janet Beer recently launched a new Mobile Spirometry Unit at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH). The mobile unit will be used by the LHCH Respiratory Team to provide a comprehensive service for patients with a range of respiratory conditions both in the hospital and in the local community – caring for more than 40,000 people each year.
Research fellows supporting global heritage preservation
Benedicta Gokah and Shreya Pai are academic researchers at the University of Ghana and Mysore School of Architecture, India respectively, whose work explores their local heritage. The Virtual International Fellowships programme supports researchers like Benedicta and Shreya to directly preserve our shared global heritage.
2022 Alumni magazine
