Power, Space and Cultural Change

We are a vibrant, collaborative and collegial group of social, cultural, political, economic and historical geographers engaged in theoretically- and methodologically rigorous, socially meaningful, and empirically grounded work.

Our cluster is shaped by five key areas of inquiry: Material Mobilities; Activism and Alternatives; Histories, Pasts and Memories; Governance and Discipline; and Knowledges, Identities and Everyday Practices. These themes reflect the diverse yet interconnected nature of our research expertise and our commitment to exploring how power, space and cultural change are, and always have been, so fundamental in shaping the world around us. We ask questions about these themes across multiple fields, including alternative economies, decolonial activisms, carceral spaces, health and embodiment, maritime spaces, rural environments, migration and movement.

We work with a range of people outside the academy including farmers, businesspeople, NGOs, social enterprises, activists, policy makers and government.

Impact

We work from a model knowledge exchange and co-production rather than of knowledge transfer and one way ‘impact’.
