Environment and Society

Environment and society explores the interconnected relationships between the environment and societies past, present and future, exploring questions of vulnerability, sustainability, adaptability, and resilience, within a range of contexts including health (e.g. vector borne disease), weather/climate (climate resilience to extremes), natural hazards (societal responses to volcanic events), energy (net zero), and pollution (air pollution).

We use a range of approaches including field monitoring and sampling, interdisciplinary and mixed methods approaches, archival analysis and modelling, with outputs shaping stakeholder community plans (e.g. locals schools developing lessons plans to ensure a better understanding of air pollution) and practices (maritime net zero targets).
