Lake District Field Class
Year 1 – ENVS 163
Taking place around Easter in 1st Year, this class continues the development of collection and sampling skills begun during the Trawsfynydd class. The module also supports the lab-based practical programme students take during 1st Year, as it gives first-hand experience for students to collect the samples which they have been working on in the classroom environment during the year. This gives students a complete experience of doing research from collection to analysis from the beginning of their degree.
The Lake District provides an ideal field location for physical geography, providing opportunities to sample formerly glacial landscapes, upland geomorphology, fluvial (river) processes and alluvial lake-bed sediments. Students undertake short projects which examine a range of different sampling techniques to ensure that they are developing a number of different skills.
