Algarve Field Class Year 3 ENVS 380

This 30-credit, Year 3 physical geography module aims to develop an understanding of the physical and biological landscape of the Algarve and its modification by human action.

To get to know the basic geomorphic evolution of the Algarve area in the light of climate change; to comprehend the interplay of processes acting at different spatial and temporal scales in the present day landscape; to realize the importance that the physiographic setting has for natural resources, landuse and natural hazards in a Mediterranean landscape, and how human landuse has transformed the landscape.

The module gives students the chance to explore these processes in a non-UK environment. Past projects include study of landscape (soil, vegetation) to understand land use activities; coastal erosion; biodiversity in saltmarsh; fire and forest; water pollution.
