Why choose the University of Liverpool?
Understand and shape your world: the social, political and environmental challenges
Our programmes offers unique insights into many of the most pressing issues facing the world in the 21st Century, such as globalisation, geopolitics, climate change, sustainability, health, economics, population and natural resource management.
Come to Liverpool and be taught by experts researching and shaping these important global challenges.
Much of our work is undertaken in collaboration with specialists in other fields and we are well-funded by commercial companies, research councils, government departments, national statistical agencies, the World Bank and UN, among others.
Theory into Practice
Theory is embedded into all our degrees, providing students with a conceptual understanding of the relationship between people, places and policy structures. However, our modules are also taught with focus on developing the personal and practical skills necessary to enable change. We value and appreciate the large financial contribution students make when coming to study at university, and we aim to provide the best return on your investment. In our current turbulent jobs market, we argue that embedding of practical skills give our graduates a real competitive advantage.
Industry and Partnership
We do not believe that a degree should be taught in isolation of the real world. We have excellent relationships with local, national and international organisations working within the broad area of Geography and Planning. Through these industry contacts, this enables us to offer client facing project modules within some programmes, giving our graduates the opportunity to work on live real world problems at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, and furthermore, develop key networks of contacts outside of the university.
An international experience
Our student cohort are drawn from across the globe. As such, our curriculum is taught from an international perspective, and our students are exposed to global geography and planning issues and approaches. In addition, we offer a range of overseas trips and opportunities for more extended overseas study, including exchanges in the USA and China. The University of Liverpool is also a co-founder of a Chinese university: XJTLU, and there are exciting opportunities for you to study there within our sister department.
World class research
We are a large and successful department of Geography and Planning with a track record of research excellence. The research we do actively feeds back into our teaching, and our taught programmes are delivered by leading experts in their field. This vibrant and active research activity complements our teaching programmes at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, embedding cutting edge thinking within our taught curriculum.
