The first IntoUniversity centre opened in 2002 as a local, neighbourhood response to young people who were leaving school with few qualifications.
In 2007, with support from The Sutton Trust and visionary philanthropists, IntoUniversity as a charity was established and started rolling out new centres in high-need London communities.
In 2011, Into launched their first centres beyond London in Bristol and Nottingham.
In 2017, in partnership with the University of Liverpool and LFC Foundation, they opened their first centre in Liverpool based in Anfield.
In 2023, a new centre is scheduled to open on Merseyside, the second centre for the Liverpool City Region.
IntoUniversity now operate 35 centres and extension projects in 18 towns and cities across England and Scotland. Their next milestone is reaching 50 centres by 2026.
At each local centre, IntoUniversity offers an innovative programme that supports young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods to attain their chosen aspiration, including further and higher education, employment and work-based training.
Their mission is to provide local support that can break cycles of disadvantage and open up new opportunities for young people. The charity believes in the talent of every young person, and does not limit their support to those young people who have been labelled ‘bright’ or ‘gifted’. They believe that, with support, every young person can progress to an excellent post-school destination and are committed to helping them on this journey.
