Visual Perception
In order for a pilot to navigate through cluttered or demanding environments, a number of "cues" are required which allow a mental guidance model to be generated. The area of visual percpetion in piloting guidance tasks has been investigated for both fixed and rotary wing operations in the FS&T research group. This work provides an insight into the underlying mechanisms of the human motion perception system and how they might be exploited in the development of pilot vision aids in degraded visual environments.
