Sarah's story
Sarah is a Philosophy and Politics student.
Passionate. Positive. Proactive.
"University was always part of my plan, but my choice remained undecided until results day, when I stumbled upon the University of Liverpool almost by accident. I never intended to study so far from my home in London, in a city where I knew no one, but over a year later, I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Liverpool has truly become my home away from home.
My interest in politics and A-level Classics naturally led me to combine them in a joint degree, which is offered by only a few universities in the UK. For my History A-level research project, I studied the progression of African American civil rights after the abolition of slavery in 1865, which highlighted Liverpool’s significant historical role. By the 18th century, the city’s ports were central to the triangular slave trade, yet it also fostered abolitionist movements—a duality that reflects its resilience and reinvention.
The University treats my degree with such care. After my first year, I joined a School of the Arts trip to Rome, exploring ancient philosophy’s roots. We toured landmarks like the Colosseum, took pasta-making classes, and formed deeper connections with course mates.
Now in my second year, I’m embracing opportunities, including working as a Liverpool Advocate, promoting the University and helping young people access this great institution."
