Rebekah's story
Rebekah is a Medicinal Chemistry student.
Hardworking. Determined. Resilient.
"COVID-19 hit during my final GCSE year, a time when I struggled with anxiety, especially around exams. I received predicted grades, good enough to study what I wanted at A-level, but I still felt I could have done better, leading to imposter syndrome during Years 12 and 13.
Initially, I applied for Law despite studying science subjects, feeling burnt out and wanting a new challenge. However, after self-studying, I realised I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought. I declined my place and decided on a gap year.
During my gap year, I explored multiple subjects, unsure where I belonged. Despite struggling with my A-level results, I applied for Liverpool’s Foundation Course in Biological Sciences. Receiving my offer reignited my passion for science.
Now studying Medicinal Chemistry, I realised during the foundation year that I preferred chemistry, and it was the subject I excelled in. I was initially stressed about choosing a progression course, but chemistry was recommended, and after careful consideration, I chose Medicinal Chemistry. It combines both of my interests, making it the best decision I’ve ever made.
My first semester has been full of new learning experiences, and I’ve enjoyed it immensely. I am incredibly grateful for the support of my partner, parents, and family. I’m excited for what the future holds."
