Ayush's story
Ayush is a Mathematics student.
Ambitious. Compassionate. Resilient.
"My journey to the University of Liverpool hasn’t been straightforward and has been shaped by challenges, growth and determination.
I completed sixth form at the height of the pandemic and immediately began studying maths at a different university. Like many, I faced the challenges of isolation and uncertainty, and my mental health ultimately declined. By the end of the academic year, I found myself unable to continue.
The following year, I worked at a print company. The team were like a family to me, and I felt a sense of belonging I hadn’t experienced in a long time. Still, I knew that I couldn’t let my story end there. I applied to the University of Liverpool to study maths once more. This time, I wanted to do things differently.
When I arrived in Liverpool, I threw myself into the University community. As a course representative, I became a voice for my peers, ensuring that their opinions were heard and helping improve the course experience. I engaged with the wider University community as a Liverpool Advocate. This included participating in open days, campus tours and outreach programmes, such as tutoring younger students and visiting schools to inspire future applicants. These experiences allowed me to share my story and encourage others to see Liverpool as a place where they could thrive.
Liverpool has been a place where I’ve formed incredible friendships and met people who’ve made my time here unforgettable. The University’s supportive environment has fostered a true sense of belonging and Liverpool has given me something that I didn’t realise I needed: hope. Hope that no matter where you come from or the challenges you’ve faced, you can find a place where you belong."
