Aishah's story
Aishah is a Human Anatomy and Biology student.
Charismatic. Resilient. Passionate.
"I always knew I wanted to go to university but having faced rejections from Physiotherapy courses, I struggled to decide on a subject, as I had many other interests. Coming from a state school with low progression into higher education, a low-income background, and being the first in my family to attend university in the UK, I knew I would face challenges trying to gain a place into university.
However, participating in the Liverpool Scholars Programme, they supported me through every step of the way, from applying to university to now guiding me throughout my studies.
With an interest in healthcare, I chose to study Human Anatomy and Biology because it forms the foundation for healthcare professions and touches nearly every medical field. I appreciated the opportunity to conduct human dissections, providing invaluable insights into the structure, variations and diseases of the human body. A quote that resonates with me is: rejection is just redirection.
Studying at the University of Liverpool has been the best time, offering opportunities I wouldn’t have found elsewhere. Despite my struggles, the University provided exceptional support, helping me thrive. Serving on the Widening Participation and Outreach panel is my way of giving back, inspiring and assisting students from backgrounds similar to mine. A highlight was participating in a fully-funded sustainability programme in Amsterdam, my first trip outside the UK and Bangladesh. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore the world without financial stress and I had the best experience that I will always cherish.
Sharing my story and contributing to the University community has been incredibly rewarding. I’m grateful for the support that the University of Liverpool has provided, which has shaped my journey, especially as a proud, born-and-raised Scouser!"
