The University of Liverpool Construction Company (Special Projects) Ltd (ULCCO-SP) is a construction company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Liverpool. Operating independently, ULCCO-SP was established in March 2013.
Our history
In March 2013, Ocon Construction went into administration, pausing work on 1,259 student accommodation units at Crown Place. To ensure the project continued and to keep skilled staff, the University of Liverpool established ULCCO-SP. In February 2013, staff were transferred from Ocon under a TUPE agreement.
The business has now been operating since 2013 and has taken responsibility for delivering much of the residential strategy – Crown Place, Melville Grove and Greenbank. This amounted to 2958 student bedrooms with additional services to a value of £163M.
We have also successfully delivered many non-residential projects for the University including Management School extension, School of Law & Social Justice, 502 Teaching Hub and the new Yoko Ono Lennon Centre.
Additionally, we have carried out Public Realm improvements and in recent years numerous small works projects on main campus and over at our Leahurst Campus. The spend on these types of services now exceeds £70M.
Our unique business model
ULCCO-SP operates within a framework set by the University, partly shielded from typical market economics, but competes openly in supply chain and procurement.
This steady workflow allows ULCCO-SP to keep its skilled and experienced staff focused on delivering future construction projects for the University of Liverpool.
