Cancer has a big impact in Liverpool with higher incidence and mortality figures than the rest of the UK. The good news is that cancer survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years thanks to research. Here in Liverpool we have scientists researching specific cancer types, as well as research groups focusing on improving cancer treatments, earlier diagnosis and prevention. Talking about cancer might not be everyone’s cup of tea but here at the University there are hundreds of cancer researchers working towards a cancer free future. Deepening our understanding of the disease, improving diagnosis techniques and developing kinder, more effective treatments, our researchers are part of the global effort to beat cancer. As part of the Open House programme, you will have an opportunity to enjoy a behind the scenes visit to one of Liverpool’s cancer research laboratories and to enjoy a chat over afternoon tea with our scientists afterwards. All welcome.
