Elgar’s Enigma Variations is the main work in this concert. Keen on puzzles and codes, Elgar used this interest to weave secrets into this piece, featuring musical portraits of some of his closest friends – one of which is a dog!

The Variations should ensure a home victory in the match, but two pianists will battle it out for the French offering in the delightful Concerto for Two Pianos by Poulenc. John Gough and Tom Kimmance are our soloists.

France provides a rousing start with Hérold’s wonderfully boisterous 1831 overture Zampa.
