The Future Circular Collider is the gateway to unraveling the mysteries of our universe’s origins. With this revolutionary machine, we will finally have the capability to peer back in time to the very beginning. This journey, straddling the realms of metaphysics and underground engineering, tells the story of humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge and the monumental efforts made to achieve it.

Way Beyond is a compelling 60-minute documentary by Swiss artist Pauline Julier that delves into the ambitious scientific pursuits at CERN. Drawing from archival footage and contemporary recordings of meetings, the film explores the ongoing efforts of scientists and engineers involved in the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study, which aims to design the next generation of particle colliders. With precise and elegant storytelling, Julier presents a nuanced and often humorous reflection on humanity's relentless quest for knowledge and its implications. Premiering at prestigious film festivals such as Visions du Réel and the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, Way Beyond offers a thought-provoking glimpse into the frontiers of scientific exploration.

The Physics Department at the University of Liverpool is actively involved in the FCC project, with several of its members working on the scientific program of the facility and designing key components of the accelerator.

The documentary will be followed by a panel discussion and the opportunity to ask questions.

Panel members will include:

Film director Pauline Julier
Professor Monica D'Onofrio (University of Liverpool)
Dr Nikolaos Rompotis (University of Liverpool)
