Indian arts and culture company Milap return to the lunchtime concerts with two immensely talented artists as part of their 'Great British Gharana'* concert series.

Enjoy a classic combination of sitar and tabla with rising stars on Britain's Indian classical music scene, Akash Parekar on sitar and Harkiran Singh Sahota on the tabla. Together, Akash and Harkiran will treat audiences to one blissful hour exploring a Hindustani Raga designed to be enjoyed in the afternoon - perfect for both Indian classical aficionados or those experiencing something new.

Akash Parekar started learning the sitar at the late age of 18 and has quickly established himself as a leading musician in the next generation of British-born musicians. A student of renowned sitarists Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE and Roopa Panesar, Akash has worked on a number of prestigious collaborative projects including 'Penguins Rising' with Zak Starkey (The Who and Oasis), the Bandish Project and Michael Tedstone. He was also a member of Tarang, the UK's national ensemble for Indian music, and has performed his music across most major venues in the country including the Southbank Centre and Royal Albert Hall.

Akash will be accompanied by leading tabla artist Harkiran Singh Sahota, an artist trained under world renowned musician Pandit Sanju Sahai. Over the years Harkiran has established himself as one of the most talented Indian percussionists in the UK and his journey has led him to work alongside artists who are future torch bearers in Indian classical music. He has worked with artists such as internationally renowned composer and violinist Dr Jyotsna Srikanth, sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun, and is equally at ease performing with Western Musicians and Choirs, such as Ex Cathedra.

* Milap’s ‘Great British Gharana’ concert series features the UK’s own Indian music talents who are on a continuous quest to explore their unique identity and juxtaposition of Indian classical traditions and Western contemporary cultural influences.

*A ‘Gharana’ refers to a particular school or tradition of music.

This concert will last approximately 50 minutes.

Presented in partnership with Milap and part of the Lunchtime Concert Series.
