A veterinary surgeon at the University will lend his expertise to the equestrian team at London’s 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Peter Bowling, Clinical Director of the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital, has been appointed by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games as an equine veterinary advisor during the equestrian competitions.
He will assist in the procurement of state-of-the-art facilities and the design of an on-site veterinary clinic at London’s Greenwich Park, and will be involved in developing the relevant systems and protocols that need to be in place ahead of the games and the test event in 2011.
More than 250 horses from over 35 nations will take part in the games, which include dressage, show jumping and eventing and Peter, as part of a team of vets, will oversee the health and welfare of the horses competing and provide treatment and advice throughout the competitions.
The 2012 equestrian events will take place between July and September.
