About
I am primarily interested in understanding volcanic processes, especially those of explosive eruptions, catastrophic geophysical flows and caldera collapse. I study modern and ancient volcanoes, including those in marine settings. Although essentially a field geologist, I have recently developed an experimental facility to study self-organizing granular avalanches and their runout behaviour. This is used by Year 4 MESci students for research projects.
