School of Environmental Sciences

We investigate the Earth, from the core to the surface, and tectonic processes associated with volcanoes and earthquakes. We study the past and present oceans to understand their influence on the climate system and cycling of elements, and we examine the formation and evolution of landscapes, from their formation to erosion by water, wind, and ice. We explore how societies respond to and manage environmental, economic, and social change, addressing planning and environmental impact assessment challenges, from the governance of our oceans, rural and urban landscapes to the use of evidence in evaluating development impacts.
