Why did you choose to study at the University of Liverpool?
I chose the University of Liverpool because it has a strong reputation in China which will be of benefit for getting job opportunities when I return to China.
Moreover, Liverpool is a vibrant city with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and culture, creating an ideal environment for my academic and personal growth.
Additionally, the cost of living in Liverpool is relatively low, making it an excellent choice for families with average incomes.
What’s the best thing about studying your programme?
The curriculum allows me to deeply understand second language teaching methodologies which I can connect with what I encounter in real-life teaching. This combination not only enhances my academic skills but also builds my confidence as an educator.
How do the facilities and/or staff help you with your studies?
When I registered at the beginning of the semester, I was deeply impressed by the patience and step-by-step guidance provided by the university volunteers and staff. Issues that had been troubling me, such as how to collect my BRP, connect to the university network, access the university's website and app, were hard to resolve before arriving in Liverpool. However, by following the email instructions and going to the designated locations, I quickly and easily resolved these problems with the help of the staff and volunteers.
Moreover, to my surprise, the teachers are incredibly friendly, patient, and insightful. They constantly encourage us and guide us step by step, which deeply moves me a lot.
The teachers and the university make every effort to let us know that we can seek help from the School for any issues. For instance, the university's Canvas page almost daily reminds me where to find support for language difficulties or mental health problems.
Did you access any of the support services available to you? If so, how did you find the service?
Yes, I went to the KnowHow centre to improve my English. It popped up on Liverpool Life and sometimes sends emails to remind me that I can get any language support from there, so I checked the website and went there.
What has been your highlight of your time at Liverpool so far?
I have so many highlights – like every time I can keep up with the teacher's pace in class, I feel very happy. Whenever I have meaningful conversations with international friends, discover new and tasty foods, visit beautiful places, or make like-minded friends, these wonderful moments are all the highlights of my time.
How do you believe undertaking postgraduate study will help your career prospects?
I believe undertaking postgraduate study will significantly enhance my career prospects by providing me with a deeper understanding of theoretical frameworks and real-world applications, making me more competitive in the job market.
Additionally, the international learning environment broadens my perspective and improves my intercultural communication skills, which are highly valued in a globalised workplace.
This experience will also strengthen my network and open up more opportunities, especially as the degree is highly recognised in my home country, offering me a great advantage when pursuing my career.
What advice would you give to anybody considering postgraduate study at Liverpool?
Before coming here, make every effort to practice your spoken English so that you can make full use of your potential skills and gain a broader understanding of the world.
