Horror and Colonial Trauma in Contemporary Indian Children’s Literature
My research involves theories on children’s literature, horror, trauma and postcolonialism. In my PhD project, I investigate the use of horror in relaying traumatic topics, often stemming from colonialism, to Indian children. The project includes both diasporic and non-diasporic perspectives while exclusively using children’s literature written in English originally. I hope to reveal the significance of the horror genre in allowing children to see the decaying centre of society. However dark this information might be, it is reality, so I think it is invaluable to research how we can warn and introduce children to these complex, heavy subjects.
