Yufei gives her top tips for studying in Liverpool
- Don’t bring too many clothes and shoes to Liverpool as the UK has many student discounts.
- During the weekend or your other spare time, don’t stay in your dorm alone; try to hang out even if you have no set plans. The sunset at the Dock is beautiful and changes every day.
- As an architecture student, we need many tools for drawing and modelling. It’s better to prepare what you need most before coming here, as you might not find the one you are used to using.
- During busy times, chain stores have microwave food, which you can store at home and use when needed. You can also use the microwave in the Guild or eat in the canteen.
Best Places to Visit
- The Albert Dock: The famous heritage in the city. The best time to visit is before sunset.
- Museums/ Galleries : The ones I visit most often are Tate Liverpool, Museum of Liverpool, RIBA North and Bluecoat. Don’t forget the nearest one - The Victoria Museum Gallery on campus.
- Bold Street: The most beautiful street of the city. There are shops on both sides of the street, with a church at the end. You can choose a café you like and spend the whole afternoon observing activities happening on the street.

For International Students
- Studio-based teaching: At the beginning of each semester, you can choose the studio you are interested in so you should read the briefs really carefully in advance. Each studio has its own design methods, tutorial times and studio locations.
- Each semester you will have a core design module taking up 30 credits and other two modules taking up 15 credits each. The 15 credit modules include environmental design, structure design, urban study, history and theories and practice management. These modules will support your design by giving you the knowledge to apply.
- There are optional tutorials for you to sign up to. Every week, you will have one compulsory tutorial on one day but another optional sign-up tutorial on another day. It’s a good opportunity to talk about your project during the optional tutorial because you can make sure your project is on track and it stimulates the process.
- You should find the way you most like to study, either in your dorm, library or studio. Staying in studios is the best way to connect with other students and get a feeling for design.
