About
I teach on a variety of modules across the English Department, from first-year literary theory and second-year nineteenth-century modules, to third-year modules on the Gothic. I also contribute to the Victorian pathway of the MA and convene the module Victorian Murder and Other Crimes.
My particular interests are in Victorian realist prose, literature and psychology, crime fiction (especially representations of criminal psychology and psychopathy), horror, and film and television adaptation.
I would welcome PhD students who are interested in Victorian realism, Victorian or contemporary crime fiction, Victorian or contemporary Gothic/horror fiction or film, or literature in adaptation.
My academic support and feedback hours for the spring term are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11am-12pm, during teaching weeks. The only exceptions are:
-Week 2 (w/c 3 February): Tuesday 10-11, Thursday 11-12
-Week 4 (w/c 17 February): Thursday, 10-12
-Week 10 (w/c 31 March): Tuesday 110-11, Thursday 11-12
You can also email me at m.a.raines@liverpool.ac.uk if you'd to make an appointment to meet me at another time.
